Signing=Communicating

A good amount of my time within the past few months has revolved around my growing interest in learning about special children. When I found the opportunity to learn a communication tool proven to be highly effective and valuable to those with disabilities, I was with hesitation. I first thought about the time I would have to invest in the said activity. Since it is scheduled on Sunday mornings, I would have had to give up on my saturday-nights-with-friends routine. It would also mean having to take time for studying instead of simply hanging out or probably traveling, if the time and budget both permit. However, the chance to learn something new, heightened by the fact that this is something new related to what I want to know more about at this point of time, is definitely an opportunity I should grab. Hence, I'm on my level 2 of the SL course. It's still hard to wake up early on Sunday mornings, and I still end up late at times, but the new words I learn and re-learn every time I get to class make me want to pursue this all the way.

I'm just wondering how to practice this skill and maintain my capacity to sign and communicate with those who are limited in their hearing and speaking abilities. After all, everything I've learned is useless unless I make use of them. I hope I get the chance to utilize them, one way or another.

Another Ordinary Monday

Because of how busy life can be, we get all tangled up in the tasks of everyday and the duties of every aspect of our existence. In the process, we end up failing to recognize the value of every breath, the beauty of every sight, the sweetness of every moment. It might not be the most delicious meal, but it is worth the dollar paid and the minutes spent while waiting for the food to be served because of that few seconds two people share in a smile, a laugh or two, a peck on the cheek when it's time to go. I cannot deny that I get too tired to wake up very early the next day, but every second of the previous night spent with someone special makes my sleep tonight more wonderful than other ordinary days.
